In follow up to the delivery of the CPTN Course on Training, Delivery and Evaluation, along side the Training for Trainers to Deliver: Practical Self Advocacy Training Course, we are delighted to invite participants onto this course.
What is Practical Self Advocacy?
The main goal of the course is to support you to identify the challenges that you may have and ways you can solve them so that you can create your own Good Life (whatever that means to you).
Desired Outcomes include:
· Build communication skills and self confidence
· Identify goals and design a plan to reach them
· Nurture your support network
We believe in active learning. That means you won’t be sitting and listening to someone talk at you for hours on end. You will be invited to consider the content of the course from your own perspective, and to share your thoughts in conversation.
Week 1: Who am I - Introductions and getting to know each other. Course outline examined and brief introductions shared. We will explore what Self Advocacy is and see what the expectations of each participant is
Week 2: Communication—Look at different ways people communicate, discuss what is meant by active listening. How to get relevant information
Week 3: Self Advocacy Skills—we will discuss the skills the participant will be using to advocate for themselves eg. listening, choice, choice, decision making and setting goals
Week 4: Personal Action Plan—explain what is meant by an action plan and assist participants in identifying their own using the skills acquired through the course
Week 5: Review participants plan— discuss issues that arise. Explore problem solving and negotiation skills.
