The Practical Self Advocacy Course has been completed in Tralee. All Participants were involved in a range of workshop activities and share their perspective on different topics but in a fun and inclusive environment. Throughout the 6 weeks a range of topics were covered including:
* Self-Esteem and Assertiveness
* Communication Styles
* Rights and Responsibilities
* Inequality and Information
* Support and Putting theory into practice.
We also had the great pleasure of Mary Carroll of the National Advocacy Service Kerry whom spoke to us about her role and how important self-advocacy is to all of us on week 5. On our final day participants received their certificates from Kerry County hero's David Clifford All Ireland winning Kerry Minor and Shane Nolan of Kerry Senior Hurling team.
It was a great accomplishment for all to complete the course everyone worked together and their confidence and knowledge of their own community has really shown. The course also gave people a since of belonging with one participate saying that “now I have a friend for the first time” and another saying that "I feel welcomed and a part of a group and I don't get judged".
