Mayo Autism Camp (MAC) opened its inclusive hub on Saturday 19 October on the grounds of Manulla Sporting Club. The hub has a sensory cubbie, a changing places toilet facility, an office for MAC and a sensory garden. The project is unique not only in Mayo on the entire island of Ireland.

The cubbie offers a calming and stimulating environment, while the changing places toilet facility will ensure that everyone will have access to appropriate facilities. The sensory garden provides a peaceful outdoor space for relaxation and enjoyment.

DFI Galway based members, Parents of Autistic People in Loughrea and surrounding areas (PALs) travelled to show solidarity and celebrate the launch. It is designed to cater to individuals of all abilities and backgrounds, providing a safe and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. The Cubbie will offer a calming and stimulating environment, while the changing places toilet facility will ensure that everyone will have access to the appropriate facilities. The sensory garden will provide a peaceful outdoor space for relaxation and enjoyment.

Mayo Autism Camp and Manulla Sporting Club are proud to be setting an example for other sporting clubs on how they can make their facilities more inclusive. This is an blueprint for making outdoors and sport more accessible to all. By creating a space that is accessible for everyone, we can promote diversity and equality within our community and universal access to outdoor activities and sports.
