This QQI Level 8 accredited course is an introduction to Problem Solving. The course introduces problem solving as part of an organisations’ continuous improvement and development strategy. As such, it is a practical application course that builds on the ideas proven in the dynamic business world. The DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) based problem solving method can produce significant improvements for an organisation.
Covid-19 Fallout Questions:
REWIND: What are we doing now, what did we intend to deliver pre-Covid19?
RECOVER: What needs to be solved and how?
REDESIGN: How do we make sure problem does not recur?
Who would benefit from undertaking this course?
The course is aimed at Administrators; Board Members; Development Workers and Managers of Community and Voluntary Organisations.
Aims:
For participants to develop an understanding of Problem Solving; to identify the skills needed to participate in strategic problem solving; to explore difficulties that may be encountered and to identify structured strategies that may be used as part of solutions to service challenges.
Outline:
This 10-week programme consists of five full days tuition staggered over the autumn semester, coupled with prescribed reading and group assignments based on the learning from each of the class days.
Day 1: The Problem and the Pathway to a Solution
Day 2: The Define Phase (Problem Specification)
Day 3: Measure and Analyse (Collecting Facts & Solution Development)
Day 4: Improve and Control
Day 5: Creative Approaches to Problem Solving
Provisional dates:
- Saturday, 3rd October 2020
- Saturday, 17th October 2020
- Wednesday, 4th November 2020
- Saturday, 21st November 2020
- Saturday 5th December 2020
Venue and Covid19 precautions
The course is set to take place at the Disability Federation of Ireland, Fumbally Court, Fumbally Lane, Dublin 8 provided it is safe to do so and in accordance with the Governments guidelines at the time. Should this not be possible in October or at any date become unsafe, the course will move to an online format.
Course Fee: SOLA students enjoy a special discounted fee of €500. DFI members receive an additional discount of €100.
